We watched the Disney Version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow today to compare and contrast the versions.
I was surprised the number of students that never saw this classic. Students seemed to enjoy it.

Homework October 25, 2018

Today in class we completed our Legend of Sleepy Hollow quizzes.
We also watched an interesting rendition of the Washington Irving classic from 1972. Students were enthralled by the funky music and interesting illustrations. There is a link below if you would like to check it out.

In addition to the video, the classes were working on the frames for their projects by painting. Luckily there were no paint-related injuries or paint catastrophes in the classroom.
Tomorrow we will compare and contrast the characters and plot between the Disney version of this American classic and Washington Irving's original.

We had The Legend of Sleepy Hollow test today in class.
Most students were able to finish, however some did not due to Vision screenings.
This evening for homework students should attempt to get their AR points
(4 points for the 1st quarter).
Students should also wash the dishes, and dry if parents/guardians would like, to help out at home.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow test is tomorrow.
Students have the following materials to look over to prepare:
1. Packet with background info on Washington Irving
2. Vocabulary
3. Author's background graphic organizer
4. Comprehension packet
5. Setting of the story

*We ran out of time today with our review. Therefore we will paint after the test tomorrow*

Homework October 22, 2018

*THERE IS NO ENVIROTHON TOMORROW*
Mr. Walsh is trying to set up an Envirothon meeting next Tuesday, October 30th, from 3:40-5:00pm, however he wants to be sure it does not interfere with trick-or-treating. Students will know for sure by tomorrow.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow test will be this Wednesday.
Students should look over the following to prepare:
1. Author's background
2. Vocabulary
3. Comprehension packets (Mr. Walsh will return them tomorrow)
4. Background influencing an author's writing.

There is no written homework this evening. Take a walk and enjoy some apple cider.

Homework October 19, 2018

The 5 comprehension parts of the Sleepy Hollow packet are due Monday.
Students were permitted to take the stories home to complete the packets over the weekend if they were not completed. Many students were able to finish them.
We did a little painting in class today. There are some blossoming artists in our classes!
Tuesday we will finish the painting with acrylic, so bring in an older shirt to put over your nice school clothes.
We will have the Sleepy Hollow test on Wednesday.
Students will review in class Tuesday.

Homework October 18, 2018

We completed reading The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in class today.
Be sure to ask which theory the student believes/favors as to what happened to Ichabod.
Tomorrow we will be painting in class with watercolors. Students may bring an old shirt to wear if there are any concerns.
The comprehension packet (Parts 1-5) is due on Monday, October 22nd. Students may submit their work tomorrow if it is completed.
We will be having a quiz next Wednesday on the story.

There will be a test next Tuesday or Wednesday on the material.

There will be a quiz on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow vocab Wednesday.

Tomorrow is the first Envirothon meeting. It is 3:40-5:00pm after school.
Students must have transportation home and a signed permission slip.
No students will be permitted to stay without a signed permission slip.
Students are encouraged to bring a drink, snack, and sneakers.

Today we had the great opportunity to travel to Bloomsburg and enjoy listening to a symphonic orchestra. We enjoyed several works by famous composers such as Tchaikovsky and Bach. It was a great experience for the 5th grade students.
Tomorrow we will begin one of my favorite units for the Halloween season.
No written hw tonight, however remember 4 AR points are due by the end of the month.
