The classes are preparing to complete a culminating project for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in place of a test.
I will go through the assignment on Monday with the students. The project will be due the following week, most likely Tuesday or Wednesday.

Today in class we began reading the first two chapters of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Students also used context clues to decipher key vocabulary words within those chapters. Tomorrow, we are going to complete some comprehension in connection to the first two chapters and discuss cause and effect and sensory details.
In addition to Sleepy Hollow, our classes also began going through the My View pilot series. We discussed informational texts and are going to dive into TDAs and citing evidence to back up answers and opinions.

Tomorrow we will be having a pretest in class on the Red Kayak Spelling words. Students will earn 100% and will not be required to take the test Friday if all are correct tomorrow.

Please remember, students should bring a book to school for silent reading in homeroom. Also, reading at least 15 minutes before bed does wonders for comprehensions skills, vocabulary development and a sound night of sleep.

Our classes read Chapter 10 of Number the Stars in class.
We also discussed pronouns and antecedents.
There is no written homework this evening, but dreary weather like this just screams read a book!

Students will hand in their comprehension questions prior to the quiz.
Students were encouraged to take a novel home if they did not complete the questions.
